Not all of our clients can be gainfully employed side by side with other workers. The Society therefore runs two sheltered workshops where basketry and some packaging is done. These projects aim to train Blind and Deaf clients in cane weaving skills, packaging techniques and entrepreneurial skills with the view to increased income. This programme would offer Blind and Partially Sighted as well as Deaf persons an opportunity to be economically active in society

RESOURCE CENTRE »
After many requests from clients and organisations over the years to examine or buy mobility aids, assistive devices and games for the blind, the Society has obtained funding to establish a resource centre for its clients and the public at large. It is situated on the 5th floor of Society’s building and has an inventory of various products to enhance quality of life and independence, for use inside or outside the home and workplace.

BRAILLE PRODUCTION »
Braille production houses are very sparse: there are currently only two in the country (Johannesburg and Cape Town), in fact catering for the entire African continent, and orders placed with them tend to be greatly delayed. Therefore, the KZN Blind and Deaf Society established a Braille production unit on the 4th floor of its building and this facility is expected to fulfill the Braille production needs in KwaZulu-Natal.
If you would like documents produced in Braille please phone Nad Ramsarup on 031 309 4991 or email him here.
