Awareness talk on disability at the uMsunduzi Library

In March 2021, the social worker did an awareness talk on disability and the challenges experienced by those who are blind and Deaf, at an event held at the uMsunduzi library. In June 2021 Dynamic Youth Development organization, who was at the event at the library, contacted the social worker with information about the End-user computing and technical support Learnership program that they were hosting .

Many of our blind, partially sighted and hard of hearing persons residing under uMsunduzi municipality, with a minimum educational level of  grade 11 joined and benefited from the Learnership. The organization assisted with work placement. Earlier this year, the organization requested assistance from the social worker in planning a Disability Awareness event in the community of Caluza.

The 2 NPO’s worked together to invite all disability organizations and the community. The event which was held in May was a tremendous success as it brought much needed information and resources to disabled persons in that community. In recognition of the ongoing collaboration between the two NPOs, and KZNBDS’s outstanding contribution to disability awareness and inclusion efforts, KZNBDS was given a laptop.

This resource will be of immense value to the organization which has not had a laptop before.  KZNBDS is humbled by the gesture and even more determined to continue collaborating with stakeholders to empower persons with disabilities.
