Teaching sign language to people with hearing disability

I started working at KZNBDS February 2024 as the Sign Language facilitator. I teach South African sign language to hearing people which I thoroughly enjoy. The students are so eager to learn and are enthusiastic at every lesson. They did very well in their assessments, and all received certificates of attendance.

In my role I also go to different schools and companies conducting presentations on how to communicate with deaf people. I also assist social workers in conducting disability sensitization training to nurses, police officers and the general community to help them understand blind and deaf persons, how to interact with them and make a more inclusive society.

As a Deaf person, I am grateful for this opportunity and am learning a lot in my job. It has helped me to gain more confidence and I am proud to break communicate barriers between the hearing and the Deaf.
